Setup Guide 15 min read

Shopify Integration Guide

Connect your Shopify store to Cartio in under 15 minutes — no code, no developer required. By the end of this guide, your store will automatically recover abandoned carts via WhatsApp, SMS, and AI voice calls.

Cartio sits inside your Shopify admin and watches for abandoned checkouts. The moment a customer closes their tab without paying, Cartio reaches out — first via WhatsApp, then SMS if needed, and finally an AI voice call as a last resort. Most stores see 20–35% of their abandoned carts come back within 48 hours.

Cartio redirects you back after install — sign in with your email

Your existing checkouts are scanned in the background

What Shopify sends Cartio

During install, Cartio registers webhooks on your Shopify store. Whenever any of these events happen, Shopify pushes the data to Cartio in real time — so your dashboard always reflects what's actually happening at the storefront.

checkouts/create

Customer started a checkout

checkouts/update

Customer added items, changed contact info, etc.

orders/paid

Customer completed checkout (recovery attributed)

app/uninstalled

Cleanup when you uninstall

Common issues

"Install failed" or app not appearing in admin

Make sure you're logged into the correct Shopify account. If the issue persists, try installing in an incognito window — sometimes browser extensions block the OAuth handshake.

No abandoned carts showing up after install

Cartio only tracks new checkouts created AFTER install. Existing pre-install abandoned carts won't appear. Wait for fresh ones, or trigger a test by adding an item to your cart in incognito and abandoning it.

Messages not sending after the threshold

Check three things: (1) Cart Recovery toggle is ON in Settings, (2) Twilio and/or WhatsApp credentials are saved on the Phone Numbers / WhatsApp pages, (3) The customer's phone number is in E.164 format (e.g. +923001234567). The dashboard's call/message logs will show the specific failure reason if any.

How do I uninstall Cartio?

In Shopify admin → Apps → Cartio → Uninstall. Cartio receives the app/uninstalled webhook and immediately stops scheduled outreach for your store. Customer data is retained for 30 days for compliance, then permanently deleted.

Heads up

Some Shopify themes have aggressive caching that delays the checkouts/create webhook by 30–60 seconds. If you set your abandonment threshold below 5 minutes, you might see false-positives. We recommend 15 minutes as a safe minimum.

Ready to recover your first cart?

Once Shopify is connected, head to the Pipeline page to design your recovery sequence — or use the default flow which handles WhatsApp + Call + SMS fallback out of the box.
